Alloy 625 wires are used for the coating process. Alloy 625 wire is a nickel chromium-based alloy and used for its high strength, excellent fabricability including joining and corrosion resistance properties. Alloy 625 service temperature ranges from very low to 1800°F (982°C). In alloy 625 strength is derived from the stiffness effect of molybdenum wire and niobium on the Ni-Cr matrix thus no requirement of precipitation hardening treatments. In alloy 625 this combination of elements also is responsible for superior resistance to a wide range of corrosion and high-temperature effects such as carburization and oxidation. Alloy wires contain some properties that make them an excellent choice for seawater applications and also prevent pitting, and crevice corrosion, high fatigue, and tensile strength, and provide resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking.
